Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Nilber P — 17 Dec 2015
Just watched this after buying it on the internet. Was so looking forward to seeing it after reading the book a couple of weeks ago, which was absolutely riveting. One of the best books I've ever read.
I was disappointed. I was also disappointed at the condensing of so much of the story and the cutting of some characters. A lot about Desi was missing among other things. I often find this with good books which do not transfer well to the screen, because so much is cut out due to time constraints and cutting or changing of characters.
I found the same thing with The Bone Collector, which was an excellent book but disappointing film. People who have not read the books may still think the films are good, which they are, but when you have read them it is disappointing.
In The Bone Collector by Jeffery Deaver they changed the sex and nationality of some characters. In Gone Girl the Tanner Bolt character was white and his wife a beautiful statuesque black woman, but she wasn't in it at all, and the same applies to Desi's mother.
