Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Eytan D — 06 Jun 2015
"Gone Girl" is another David Fincher winner! This guy is practically incapable of making a bad movie. But it's not just Fincher who makes this movie work. The cinematography and editing create an expert sense of tension from beginning to end.
Gillian Flynn (whose book I enjoyed tremendously) adapts her source material perfectly for the screen. She doesn't just write intriguing characters (Nick and Amy are gloriously and intelligently dysfunctional), but she also gives them rich dialogue and nifty vocabulary to work with.
And finally, there's the cast. Tyler Perry and Neil Patrick Harris make for great ensemble members, and Ben Affleck is terrific as Nick. But in terms of casting, Fincher and Flynn hit cinematic gold with Rosamund Pike as Amy.
She is calculating, psychotic, funny, clever, and all of those traits come accompanied with Pike's doe-eyed beauty, which proves all the more entertaining. Fans of the book will love what Fincher, Flynn and their cast have done with the movie.
And those who haven't read "Gone Girl" (as long as no one spoils it) will love it too. It's another A-grade thriller from Fincher. What more could you ask for?
