Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Dee S — 29 May 2015
This movie would make a nice BuzzFeed article something like "Mass media. It sucks" or "Your wife is a bitch. Deal with it", but as a feature film it just doesn't work. There are no emotions and it evokes no emotion too. Ben plays an anthropomorphic log as usual, he's just so wooden almost like a reclaimed wood table in my living room, and the girl plays a female robot. Fun times at the movies. The end is ridiculous, dumb and contrived. "Huh? Who? When? Meh. Whatever.", that was our reaction after all was said and done.
Fincher totally went for the 'Blue Velvet' concept and vibe, with violence, bloody stuff, weird behaviors, but the movie is definitely missing Lynch's perfect atmosphere and kink.
