Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Laurie H — 22 Oct 2015
In the beginning, I was captivated and moved by the ambiguity in the "did he or didn't he" plot, but the film just got sillier and meaner as it went on. Rosamund Pike may well be the most unsympathetic character in film history and the police are nearly baffoons by film's end.
I "get" the send-up of the media--creating demons and angels at will--but most of the Southern and poor characters are stereotypes, lacking in any complexity or nuance. I wanted to like this film, but I just cannot.
