Once disappeared. Now found. Here's my take on GONE GIRL (2014).

There have been numerous films that deal with the intricate facets of marriage; mostly set on a very positive tone. Sometimes the road leads to the unconventional yet entertaining or veers to the rudimentary yet real. But it truly fascinates me when it gears toward a sicker and more twisted approach that only exceptional directors can fully realize.

One notable example who's willing to take the driver's seat is Oscar nominee David Fincher. With the bold script from author-turned-screenwriter Gillian Flynn, Fincher takes us on a journey to the darker avenues of the so-called "married life".

Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike play husband and wife (Nick and Amy Dunne) trapped in a life of ups and downs. Amid the game of bondage, Nick's life will turn into great degrees upon the disappearance of his better half. Trouble ensues. Deception surfaces. Madness arrives. And it gets darker from there.

This faithful adaptation of the best-selling novel stems from the team's vision of redefining everyone's thought on "Marriage"- IT'S NOT AS FREAKING EASY AS IT SEEMS. The film's never afraid to re-examine the very dynamics of human relationship and spew fires of the ugly truths that come with it.

Affleck has greatly elevated his leading man status while Pike has finally become a household name. They are so effective that their onscreen chemistry can shift from likable to dangerous. The rest of the cast (from Neil Patrick Harris to Tyler Perry to Carrie Coon to Kim Dickens to Missi Pyle etc.) strongly supports from start to finish.

Wise decision indeed, Fincher relies on his highly formidable team- haunting music supplied by Nine Inch Nail's Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross / sharp editing maneuvered by Kirk Baxter/ and precise cinematography focused by Jeff Cronenweth- the same people who gave life to gems like "The Social Network" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

This film is not to be missed. Just leave all the expectations at your door and enjoy the bumpy road ahead. Even if it means enduring a chaotic ride.

Skull. Treasure Hunt. Wood. 5/5 folks.
