Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Matt L — 07 Apr 2015
Having never read the novel, I can tell that it would be masterfully written and wonderfully mysterious. There are several aspects of this story that I find incredibly intriguing and impressive.
However, I do have two issues with it:
A) I didn't enjoy either of the main characters (not the actors or their performances, but the story's characters), and therefore found it hard to care what happened to them.
B) The pacing of the storytelling in the movie was too consistent. There didn't seem to be a climactic climb. Events and realizations tended to unfold very matter-of-factly which made the overall flow dry, adding to my feelings of the characters.
An excellent story that could have been tweaked for the sake of the hour-and-a-half movie model.
