Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Paul M — 22 Jul 2011
Outstanding. Theres not one aspect of this film that isn't incredibly, and masterfully handled. I am a big fan of procedural detective novels and I find that they don't always translate successfully to film. I'm not familar with the source novel for this flick, but all I know is that this film grabbed me by the hand and took me surprising and extremely beleivable and original places that I wasn't expecting. It's not exactly a 'thrill' ride, but it is completely gripping and really solidly told.
This film takes a few steps in plot that you don't normally see, a surprise left turn before wrapping itself up in a nice neat bow. or is it a neat bow? The story is fully resolved but the film leaves you with a question, a little moral conundrum for you to ponder long after the closing credits roll.
I would highly highly recommend this flick to everyone, it is excellent all round. the acting, the directing, the story, it's truly superb. Definately a movie to talk about afterwards and appreciate fully throughout.
Oh, and it has Omar as a cop - AWESOME!
