Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Hannah M — 05 Jan 2012
It took me seeing this two times to really figure out how I feel about it. There are a few elements in particular I wasn't crazy about BUT, as a film directed by Ben Affleck (one of my least favorite actors on the planet), it is by far a massive achievement.
Maybe he's found his calling? I watched the "behind the scenes" footage and enjoyed how he really captured the essence of the location this is filmed in and around. He and his brother apparently grew up there (somewhere in Boston), so he really did seem to have a good grasp on what he was doing, in terms of the film's presentation at least.
Also, I applaud movies that tend to bring new concepts and ideas to the table. Here we have a ruthless, unrelenting crime drama that leaves its audience with something substantial to think about and discuss once it's over.
That says a lot to me. I like that. And I like this. Casey Affleck's the sibling that's been blessed with the acting gene, I'd say.
