Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Jeffrey G — 13 Aug 2012
I'm really loving film adaptations of Lehane's novels...and what's with Boston as the setting for some great films--"Mystic River", "The Departed" and now "Gone Baby Gone".
While Affleck's directorial debut can't match the power and majesty of Scorsese or Eastwood's offerings, it's still a very well-done, VERY well-acted picture. There's a complexity of character here that's been missing from many films, and I'm happy that the ending isn't what you'd expect from mainstream Hollywood.
Maybe the older Affleck should stay BEHIND the camera and let his younger brother--who has shown himself to be QUITE capable with this film and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford"--stay in front of it.
