Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Richard C — 06 Sep 2012
A thought-provoking and hard-hitting adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel that proves that Ben Affleck is a better director than he is an actor, being able to create nerve-shredding tension on a frequent basis and also directing some well-organized performances by a versatile cast including Casey Affleck, Ed Harris, Amy Ryan, Michelle Monaghan and Morgan Freeman.
The ending, while faithful to the book, does however strike itself as the sort of situation that will inspire debate which will be easily divided, but for all its worth, this is a cracking morality drama as well as an unpredictable, thrilling but also disturbing watch that plays as a film that is just as good as the book, but purely for Affleck's well-balanced direction.
