Review of Gone Baby Gone (2007) by Rhys G — 20 Nov 2012
A tense, honest mediation on moral dilemmas faced in contemporary society. Affleck's debut (I saw the other's first) is well directed (poorly shot, though ... his other films looked so much better) even though the screenplay is a little rough.
Don't get me wrong - I celebrate honesty in film and have no problems with language. I felt though that it was a little excessive here, and just turned the tone down a notch. For me, this is Affleck's weakest directorial work (Casey rocks out on screen, though, and Ed Harris - wow) and ultimately a star or two lower than Eastwood's adaptation of 'Mystic River'.
