Review of Gone Are the Days (2018) by Steve S — 16 Jan 2019
This was a great movie for the most part. Only thing I thought could have been improved would have been to make certain things less obvious, like Virgil being a figment of Taylon's imagination and being long dead. The vast age difference gave that away very early on and would have been less obvious had the actor playing Virgil looked closer in age to the main character. Otherwise, the story was gripping and sometimes it was hard to tell what was a hallucination due to the opiods the main character was on and what was real, like when Taylon is lying in the desert and his daughter rides out to bring him his horse, guns, and money. Next scene he's lying alone in the desert again. A bit confusing at first, in a good way. Anyone who's ever done hallucinogenic drugs knows that's pretty realistic.
Despite what some people would call flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. There was even a bit of a greek mythology reference, referring to the River Styx and paying the ferryman to cross. If you like westerns, this is a must see.
