Review of Gone (2012) by Steven D — 09 Mar 2012
Entertaining with effective use of the Portland, Oregon locations, but the title accurately describes the logic of the movie and its characters. Amanda Seyfried makes Jill Parrish sympathetic, but, frankly, the lady is nuts.
Her primary investigative technique is lying, followed by a waving a gun. The cops' unwillingness to believe her story makes sense. On the other hand, the cops are monumentally incompetent. After they found her stumbling through Forest Park, they only searched the park for a week looking for the hole where she was imprisoned? I realize that Forest Park is 8 square miles and that a father and his daughter lived there for four years before being discovered, but no one was looking for them.
Really? No one would look for more than a week? Especially, when the hole turns out to be within short walking distance of a ranger station? Plus, there are all the unnecessary red herrings that movie never bothers to resolve.
