Review of Gomorrah (2008) by Elise M — 08 May 2010
One Critic proclaims: "The Greatest Mafia Movie Ever Made.".
This contemporary Italian mobster drama is able to carry out a story that neither the public nor film societies have ever seen before. Not only is it satisfying under the circumstances of it being a story that I have never seen before, but the stories underlining themes and motives are executed in a fashion that I find very fascinating. There are inter-connecting stories in this mobster tale of one of the most powerful mafia groups in all of Europe, the Camorra. There are five different sub-plots that are all mainly linked to the Camorra Mafia, which each results in bloody after-maths for the people involved within these sub-plots. Death stands a tole for these people, all for the sake of making sure the Camorra stay on top of their criminal behavior in Italy.
I enjoy movies that tell several different stories within the main headline of one story, which, in this case, would be the Camorra Mafia Organization. The films depicting of how this mafia "got around" (made profits, gained leverage on others, etc) does such a unique job on it's story-telling that it is essential to pay close attention so that you are able to understand the movie to it's fullest premise (and so that you can fully satisfy it to its fullest extent) It will remain a classic to the mafia world, and in the film world.
