The idea of this film as a "real" mob movie, a documentary-style chronicle against the romanticism of Hollywood versions, should have been better. However, the glut of characters and sub-plots bores as it overreaches by covering so many levels of corruption that one never gets a coherent social picture that a movie like "City of God" provides.

Perhaps this is because it presumes too much from its source material (e.g., the location, "Scampia" is mentioned off-hand as the locale in the closing information, but never disclosed until that point).
