Review of Gomorrah (2008) by Michael Y — 10 Feb 2010
A very informative, brutal, and bleak portrayal of the Camorra in Naples, Italy composed of five separate stories shot in a documentary-style format. imho, some of the stories were a bit difficult to follow perhaps due to the editing. Tighter editing and/or intro/title cards to each story (similar to what was done in Pulp Fiction) probably would have helped. Nonetheless, the film does a good job giving the viewer a glimpse into the pervasiveness of the Camorra in S. Italy. It also brings the Naples Garbage Strike a few years ago into context.
Incidentally, the title "Gomorra" is a pun on "Comorra" and also refers to the destroyed biblical town. This title is very appropriate, although not necessarily in the Christian Biblical interpretative sense of "Sodom and Gomorrah.".
