Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Derek D — 26 Aug 2012
The classic, and what is without a doubt the greatest James Bond film of all time, Goldfinger. This is the film where the 007 formula is perfected and forever followed as formula for the entire series. Goldfinger is the film that features Bond getting his trademark gadget in the form of the Aston Martin DB5, 007's famous car. This is also the film that now despite being grounded in realism can take the step into the realm of fantasy.
Goldfinger features Sean Connery's best performance as agent 007 trying to unravel a plot to destroy the gold supply at Fort Knox. Gert Frobe is Auric Goldfinger the madman behind it all who may be the most memorable Bond villian of all time, complete with powerful henchman Oddjob. Goldfinger has an awesome story and quite possibly some of the best espionage scenes on film most notably the film's suave opening scene. The film has some very innovative action sequences from the Aston Martin chase, and the battle at Fort Knox.
Goldfinger is the pure definition of cool and the most famous, and greatest Bond adventure of all time. A pure spectacle, pure genius 007 always was ahead of his time.
