Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Sam T — 29 Jan 2013
Initial reaction to this was that this was a fun, exciting, well thought-out movie compared with the previous two in the franchise. After the fact though, I realized that James Bond was a bit of a joke in this one.
He gets himself kidnapped several times, uses a woman as a shield, and SPOILER* kills the bad guy by accident SPOILER END*. There is an allusion to his shortcomings as a distracted womanizer, but then he forces himself onto the aptly named Pussy Galore, throwing that chance at some redemption out the broken airplane window.
Sean Connery is still fun to watch, but his character sometimes lapses too much into cheesy territory. The pacing, action, villain and gadgets make this one the classic 007 movie.
