Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Kevin G — 13 May 2013
Nearly everything in Goldfinger is iconic; the pre-titles, theme song, villain, henchman, bond girls, one-liners, the car, the gadgets. I have no doubt that if I were to makes lists in all those category, Goldfinger would make every single one.
If anyone ever asks you how you define cool, hand them this movie and tell them to watch Sean Connery; he's the epitome. My favourite scenes all involve Bond interacting with Goldfinger, telling him to loose money at gin, duping him on the golf course, the laser, etc.
etc. Operation Grand Slam is the Bond franchise's best example of the ridiculous, yet believable villain scheme. Oddjob may not be Jaws, but he is the prototype for all Bond henchman to come. (Grant's role in Russia is more of a main villain role, even while playing henchman).
