Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Raji K — 10 Jan 2014
Goldfinger is the Bond movie I believe that really made Bond movies here to stay. The first two movies have their moments, but Goldfinger is iconic and easily one of the best in the series to date. The song is one of the few that lasts outside of the Bond universe, the gadgets were used much more for action instead of communication, and Goldfinger and Oddjob could each warrant a film of their own as villains. Goldfinger also somewhat sets the trend of opening up the movie with a big over the top action sequence.
Bond Girl - 4/5.
Pussy Galore although part villain is one of the more memorable characters in the series.
Gadgets - 4/5.
A lot more action oriented gadgets in this film and Oddjob's hat is legendary and the Ashton Martin car with all the gadgets in it really was just awesome. The car set the standards for many other films to try and match or have similar like cars in each of the films.
Villains - 5/5.
Goldfinger and Oddjob are two of the best villains in the entire series. The plan of Goldfinger and his lust for power and gold are the type of plots that can only be written in a Bond film. Oddjob without any dialogue still has a demanding presence and his hat as a weapon was so original compared to anything else seen. Goldfinger's line of "No, I expect you to die" is one of the best quotes as well.
Music 5/5.
Goldfinger is one of the best opening Bond songs in the entire series and you do not even have to have seen the movie to really know the song.
