Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Jeffrey B — 16 Nov 2015
Goldfinger perfects all of the signatures we would see in later Bond films: the gadgets, the one-liners, the quirky but deadly henchman and the wealthy megalomaniac villain. In this film, Bond is captured and on a tight leash.
Instead of fighting his way through, he uses his clever wits to outsmart his enemies. It has grandiosity and a touch of humor, but otherwise makes the characters believable within the fantasy. It's an essential Bond film.
