Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Curtis H — 26 Apr 2011
Pierce Brosnan's James Bond was attached to action-packed slick films. This movie, being his first, established that very succesful precedent. When a rogue General liberates the GoldenEye an earth-orbiting Russian super-weapon, Bond makes his way to Russia, then to Cuba where he finds plenty of explosive action along the way.
Brosnan's tall dark and handsome looks, cool demeanor and natural intensity in action sequences makes him an effective synthesis of predecessors Sean Connery and Roger Moore; however, this particular outing is defined by its brilliant villains.
Sean Bean as former 006 is Bond's lethal match. The sadomasochistic Xenia Onatopp is clearly one of the best henchmen of all time.
