Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Erin S — 20 Sep 2011
The best James Bond movie by far in my opinion. As someone who owns all the flicks and has watched at minimum 1 per month since grade Six...Often one per week.
What's not to like? It's got Pierce Brosnan, the best Bond in encompassing all of his attributes: charm, violence, professionalism. Other Bonds, even Connery and the overrated Daniel Craig, only show parts of Bond's overall character.
It also has Sean Bean, who everyone admits is just super cool, as the best Bond enemy. After all, what could be a better enemy than a former double-oh agent who is Bond's old best buddy?
It's got a great scene with Q, the introduction of Dame Judi Dench (a far, far better M than her predecessor), and Xenia Onatopp...The most outrageous and hot Bond girl ever. A Fighter Pilot who kills with her legs, and starts her killing by taking out a balding CANADIAN frigate captain? Done and done.
Oh and the music. Done by the same French guy that scored La Femme Nikita. It is a perfect synergy of classic Bond theme music, with Cold War Russian motifsm, and early 90's techno. It fits just fine thank you.
I gush over this movie. I love it. I saw it in Grade 5 the day after I broke my arm and it, not Tylenol, took away the pain for two hours. If you at all like Bond or Spy movies and haven't seen it yet: SEE IT.
Matt.
