Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Raji K — 31 Jan 2014
After a 6 year hiatus, the longest gap between Bond films, 007 is back in style with Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye. This movie had tremendous pressure to live up with the hype and return of Bond, and a failure in this movie realistically could led producers to believe Bond was no longer viable for the 90s and beyond. Pierce Brosnan instead blows expectations away and plays Bond with suave, style and an element of classiness that makes him one of the best Bonds yet. He can be violent and physical like Connery, Serious and Dark like Dalton, but still has the wit of Moore with some of his one liners. A great plot, Bond girl and set of villains proves that the formula still works.
Bond Girl - 4/5.
Scorupco is beautiful and has some of the most personality compared to all of the Bond girls. She can hold her own, and has the intelligence to go with it.
Gadgets - 3/5.
Explosive timers, laser watches, a rappelling belt and hyperzoom cameras all help Bond move through this movie representing a good blend of action and stealth gadgets.
Villains - 5/5.
Xenia Onatopp was play really well by Famke Janssen and is one of the most ruthless female villains since Rosa Klebb in From Russia with Love. Sean Bean as the rogue 006 was one of the few villains that really made you think Bond has met his match.
Music - 4/5.
Tina Turner sings GoldenEye which is a respectable song to the series.
