Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Danny R — 09 Oct 2015
Martin Campbell's slam-bang thrilling action adventure is made in the best Bond tradition, with jaw-dropping stunts, sexy women, gorgeous exotic locations, striking visual effects, and plenty of international intrigue.
It introduces Pierce Brosnan as the new James Bond, and it is a remarkable debut by him in this legendary iconic role. Brosnan brings a subtle cool intensity to his interpretation of James Bond, and makes the character into a charismatic no-nonsense lethal British agent.
The story concerns a new super-secret satellite weapon called "GoldenEye," which fires an electromagnetic pulse beam that could shut downs all electronic equipment, it poses a major threat to all the nations of the world, it has fallen into the wrong hands, and Bond goes to Russia in search of the stolen access codes for this devastating satellite weapon, but he is up against a nefarious mastermind enemy from his past that has only hatred for him, and anticipates his every move.
Astute direction by Campbell, with superior supporting performances by Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, Famke Janssen, Joe Don Baker, Judi Dench, Robbie Coltrane, Gottfried john, Alan Cumming, Desmond Liewelyn, and Samantha Bond.
Stunning cinematography by Phil Meheux, an evocative score by Eric Serra, with a soulful title song sung by Tina Turner. A very memorable Bond film indeed. Highly Recommended.
