Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Clyde S — 25 Sep 2010
The best of the four Pierce Brosnan bond films brings bond into the modern era with a new M played by Dame Judi Dench and a new formula for the series to go by. The tank chase in St. Petersburg is undoubtedly one of the best chases in the series if not the best.
What makes GoldenEye so good is Pierce Brosnan as Bond as he sort of brings class to the character, something Connery's bond sadly lacked. The effects are finally up to modern standards and no longer is there a silly villain bent on world domination but instead a former partner of 007's gone rogue.
Judie Dench is a welcome addition to the series as M. Despite that the cold war had ended four years before the production of this movie not having the Soviets as the enemy actually helps this film.
