Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Lorne N — 05 Jul 2010
The movie that proved "James Bond Will Return.".
Pierce Brosnan was the most highly anticipated Bond actor so far in the history of the franchise. He had the look and he had the persona.
Goldeneye was the first script that was completely original from anything Ian Flaming had suggested or written. The only connection was the title of the film itself which happened to be the name of Ian's Jamaican retreat.
This is a very Bond movie that is action packed from start to finish. The villain is a formidable adversary since his training was so close to Bond's.
The story has just enough twists to keep you interested but straight enough that it allows for more action time.
This was the most pleased I had been with the Bond franchise since Goldfinger which is the gold standard for the entire movie series.
The area where this movie falls short is longevity. Unlike many Bond films that are timeless classics this movie was outdated extremely quickly. Everything looks old even five years after the film was released.
I have to admit this is the single movie that started my addiction to James Bond. The moment I saw the tank fly through the brick wall in the streets of St.Petersburg I knew I would be hooked for life.
I thank you Ian Fleming and this movie was just one more addition to your legacy. I salute you.
