Review of GoldenEye (1995) by Ryan L — 20 Sep 2012
This is the only really good Bond movie Pierce Brosnan got to be in. It really is a really good movie. It is very, VERY 90s though, like the Matrix its special effects didn't all age gracefully, but thats not its fault.
The aspects that matter though are all good. In his first outing Brosnan proves he has the chops to play the worlds most famous secret agent. He has the Bond swag, his rendition feeling more Roger Moore then Connery but definitely his own version.
Outside that the plot is solid following a good story, one of treason and friendship. Sean Bean is very very strong in his role, as he always is. The whole cast is strong really. Considering the movie this followed it would have been hard to disappoint but they really did step up their game for this one.
Though his Bond movies would go downhill 1 by 1, Brosnan was a good Bond, the movies he was given just weren't up to par. However, he should be glad that at the very least he is able to say he had one of the better Bond movies in his tenure.
A strong and overall entertaining film, it has all the makings of a classic Bond film and delivers from beginning to end.
