Review of Goldeneye (1989) by Seth Y — 28 Mar 2013
To this day, GoldenEye is still the best James Bond film and nothing will ever top it. Pierce Brosnan is hands down the best actor for the role and will always be the true 007.
Xenia Onatopp (Famke Janssen), working for the Russian mafia, leads a theft of the controls to GoldenEye, which is a high-tech weapons system. James Bond joins forces with a survivor of the theft, and together the two aim to track down Onatopp and her men in order to regain the controls to GoldenEye. However, in time, Bond discovers that the true mastermind behind the operation is someone who he would never expect.
As previously mentioned, Pierce Brosnan's portrayal of James Bond is the most authentic and appropriate. He is absolutely fantastic in the role, which is not something I feel with any of the other actors, especially the boring Daniel Craig who is massively overrated. When I think of 007, I think of Pierce Brosnan. In terms of the film itself, GoldenEye is one of the most entertaining and well-made action films I have ever seen. It's beautifully shot, extremely entertaining, and full of great sequences. This is one of the quintessential films of the 1990's, and will always bee the best Bond film ever made! 5 stars.
