Review of Golda's Balcony (2007) by Ada C — 09 Oct 2007
I never saw it when it was on Broadway, although after seeing the movie I wish I had. Valerie Harper is really impressive, plus I got to see her in the lobby of the theatr ebefore seeing the show. The problem with this film is that it's basically just a filming of a play.
Alot of stage conventions just don't work on the big screen. I wonder if there were projections in the stage version. Projections work in theatre because you can separate the real people from the film.
On the screen, however, when it's just replacing a blue screen, it can get distracting, (I had trouble following about the first twenty minutes), and look a bit like Faerie Tale Theatre from the 80s, (which in this case, is not such a good thing).
See it for Valerie Harper, and to learn more about Israel, but not for cinematography or direction.
