Review of Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995) by Kara R — 16 Jan 2017
Christina Ricci and Anna Chlumsky are a lovable pair of friends.
One of those early adventurous kids flicks from the 1990s. The tone is sometimes jarring going from whimsical to dark and serious but it means well.
The gold isn't really the main focus but a secondary plot watching these two girls bond.
Beth moves from the city and isn't a fan but when she meets Jody they make an unexpected bond despite what everyone says about her, plus she has a troubled home life she keeps to herself.
They venture into the woods to search for famous treasure in a mountain where Jody has made a shelter for herself, of course Beth has a tough time being just as curious.
At points it's cute and innocent other times it's heavy and tough.
Still the two girls make the film soar with their budding relationship.
The boat they sail on is one of my favorite props, too.
You'll be engulfed by the breathtaking scenery as well.
