Review of Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) by Hollie H — 12 Aug 2009
With nearly the same cast members as 42nd Street, one might think that the plot would be fairly similar. That was not the case for a movie such as Gold Diggers of 1933. And instead of focusing all of the attention on Ruby and Dick it was more about Joan Blondell and her man.
This confused as I sat watching Turner Classic Movies. But I came to enjoy the new plot. When I was expecting scantily clad dressed women dancing on a sound stage disguised as a theater stage and what I got was two women using men to get what they want because they were accused of being gold diggers, well.
.. There we go. Obviously, the 30's can surprise you when it comes to movie making. Highly recommend this story of trickery and falling in love.
