Review of Gold (2016) by Doug J — 26 Feb 2017
This is a thoroughly entertaining and sometimes funny movie that is not at all boring or cliché like some critics claim. Matthew McConaughey is brilliant as usual with a great supporting cast. It is very well directed with excellent cinematography.
The story will keep your attention despite it not being unique. There are some similarities between this and Wolf on Wall Street but it's not just a copy of that movie or predictable. It is able to stand on its own with an interesting plot and good ending. The movie follows Kenny Wells (McConaughey) and his failing family business as he takes a huge risk to keep himself out of debt and his business afloat.
This movie reeks of capitalism and greed but McConaughey makes the character so human and likable that you forget about all that. I'd recommend this to anyone who likes drama and is a fan of Matthew McConaughey.
