Review of Gold (2016) by Nick U — 10 May 2017
Well first and foremost Matthew McConaughey gives another Academy Award worthy performance. His dedication to his craft and dedication to excellence in his performances is inspiring. Overall I really enjoyed this movie.
Some reviews complain that it's dull but I was engaged throughout the entire movie. The scenery is beautiful as it transitions to Indonesia where the hands on work to discover gold begins. I felt like it had some similarities to the wolf of Wall Street but the main character in this movie has a soul and is in it for more than just the money.
He genuinely loves what he does with or without the money. It had a lot of relationship dynamics thrown in, ups and downs, solid acting all around, good directing, cinematography. Some details were changed from the real story, but I feel like it captures the heart of the story quite well.
It's ultimate about one mans unrelenting passion to achieve his dream no matter the obstacles. I feel like this is an underrated film that the critics got wrong.
