This made me want to watch all the slashers that i've missed. I liked all the interviews. I wonder if it's wrong to laugh at someone getting stabbed in the face with pruning shears...not that it would stop me if it was, but at least I wondered.

I really have to disagree with the siskel and eberts who say that the slasher genre is misogynistic. first of all, the hero of a slasher film is usually a woman. second, more men die in slashers. third, just because a woman is afraid of getting murdered, and then does get murdered, doesn't mean that the filmmakers hate women.

usually the killer isn't a woman-hater; usually it's someone with something like a vendetta against a particular person or group of people (and women are people). and to say that the killer is targeting teens who have been doing drugs, drinking, and/or having sex is basically the same as saying that the killer is targeting teens.

also, the boyfriend is usually killed before the girl, meaning (to me) that the killer (assuming it's not supernatural) wants to remove the greatest physical threat, and that he/she wants to remove the girl's perceived safety net to make her more afraid.

a heroine would kick ass, and a victim would give up and die. getting stabbed to death is a character flaw in slasher movies.
