Review of Goin' Coconuts (1978) by Emily A — 26 Sep 2010

Okay guys, first thing? Don't judge me! This was the second film in an all-night schlock-a-thon and everyone else I was watching it with was expecting a porno film from the eighties. Sothere.

This movie is just... um.... great. It's delightful. There is nothing wrong with it. It's skillfully written, well shot, Donnie and Marie are fairly easy on the eyes, the story is engaging and all the peripheral characters are great. It's such a shame that so much effort and obvious talent went into making a bubblegum, throwaway piece of pop cinema that probably wasn't meant to stand the test of time. This movie is fun! It's entertaining and it culminates wth the kind of respect for continuity that makes it seem elegant. I wish that today's throwaway movies were this good.

Oh, and I'm fairly sure that Donnie and Marie Osmond are vampires. Look at their teeth! Look at how gracefully they've aged! A case can be made.
