Review of Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (1956) by Riley H — 19 Apr 2009
Didn't understand why Raymond Burr was in the nasty 1985 remake until I saw the original US release abortion. The original jap version is magnificent with all the ingredients of later monster films, without the pissweak attempts at humor.
Very anti-way, very anti-nuclear. You have to pretend you don't how monster films go, coz this one set the standard for all that followed. Showed it to a Japanese house guest once and she: a) couldn't believe an Aussie would want to watch it, b)couldn't believe I'd think she'd want to watch it, and c) the subtitles didn't come close to the original dialogue!
