Review of Godzilla (2014) by Lowbrowcinema — 17 May 2014
The new GODZILLA is one more overproduced bore-fest produced for one reason--to exploit the past and make tons of money. At least with some remakes, the filmmakers pretend to have a point or at least a somewhat new point of view.
Worst of all, this big budget fiasco is simply no fun. Something one can't say of the original or the multitude of Japanese sequels. And two questions, why cast fine actors like Bryan Cranston, Juliette Binoche, Elizabeth Olson, and Sally Hawkins, and then give them nothing to do? Second, the budget of GODZILLA is about $200 million and yet, they can't even get Cranston a half way decent wig for his 10 minutes of screen time? You know a film is in trouble when you're noticing wigs.
But anything beats looking at the murky cinematography made even muddier by the perfunctory 3D.
