Review of Godzilla (2014) by Psycros — 21 May 2014
Not a complete letdown, but not far from it, either. To sum it up as succinctly as possible: the director wanted to do a modern remake of a classic Godzilla movie. Unfortunately he chose to remake a really *bad* one.
The trailers use Cranston to sell the pic and the movie isn't really even about him, and he's in less than half of it. The monsters seem to be able to become silent and invisible at will, Godzilla's place in the film is barely explained (and poorly at that), the Japanese scientist pulls theories from thin air based on NO data whatsoever but which somehow turn out to be correct.
Its a painful watch, and just seeing the Big G stomping around for a little while in classic form isn't nearly enough to save this clunker. A rental at best, but honestly you'd be better off re-watching a GOOD giant monster film like Pacific Rim.
