Review of Godzilla (2014) by Zimbardo — 16 May 2014
From the look of the other reviews I first need to establish my cred or my views are meaningless: I have a PhD in Godzillology and it is my scientific conclusion that this movie suffers from a case of "Too much army guy, not enough monster wrestling". I'll also drop the word !!!Kaiju!!! in this review so you know I have a diploma on my wall from Toho University.
Whether it's a Japanese or American film, boring side-plots have always been an issue in Godzilla movies. They don't contribute to character development, building tension, or serve as (useful) plot devices. They are just something you suffer through before getting to the good stuff. This movie has very little good stuff. Even when the monster fight scenes were happening they seemed slow and didn't pack the same punch as other movies.
Using my super awesome research abilities I have calculated the ratio of awesome monster action to boring filler, which is reflected in my rating.
