Review of Godzilla (2014) by Private U — 08 Jan 2015
A successfully dark take on the classic monster flicks. Highlights include the sensible plot, nearly never-ending cool factor, Bryan Cranston's performance, and the moment that the giant lizard himself starts breathing blue fire.
Unfortunately the high-quality of acting dies immediately along with [SPOILER] Bryan Cranston's character's death, [END SPOILER] and the runner-up in the acting department was Ken Wantanabe, who, though usually great, disappoints with a never-changing shocked expression and frequent ramblings about "nature's balance," followed by Elizabeth Olsen whose character was unfortunately reduced to running and hiding in a hole for the whole film, followed lastly by her stone-faced husband played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson who happens to be the main character that takes orders from whoever is barking them while occasionally wondering how his family is doing.
However these gripes didn't keep me from enjoying the otherwise exciting and at times nerve-wracking monster flick. I sincerely hope for a sequel in the same vein.
