Review of Godzilla (2014) by Jesse G — 22 Jun 2015
I must commend any one involved with this project for realizing the potential that Godzilla as for being a major Hollywood star in this day and age, as cinema has evolved enough for such a creature to be fully realized.
That said, Godzilla is never fully realized within the context of this film's story. The focus in is on the humans and when you have the option to focus more on shrieking ant-size people compared to the enormity that is Godzilla than let's just say you better have some damn good acting.
Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe are two powerhouse house actors who were very underutilized and Aaron Taylor-Johnson was just too boring to really care enough about. What saves the film and brings up to the level of a major Hollywood contender is the monsters who do steal the show when they are given the chance!
