Review of Godzilla (2014) by Jacob B — 10 Aug 2017
This new version of Godzilla gets the Warner Bros.' MonsterVerse off to a bumpy start. There's not enough of the titular character, we never get a good look at him, every time he appears the movie quickly switches to boring drama rather than let the audience see him be awesome and the lighting.
Oh my God, the lighting is dim. When people say this movie is VERY dark, they mean it literally. However, the film isn't without its better moments. There are still some awesome scenes including Godzilla fighting against the female MUTO, a HALO jump and his roar.
Some of the drama is decent as well. Even though we're mostly just pissed that Bryan Cranston is wasted and none of us care about Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I've never seen the 1998 movie with Matthew Broderick so I can't say this movie's better than it but I agree that it's decent at best.
Sadly, it's just decent and decent alone. That's all there is to it. Let's hope the Godzilla/King Kong crossover works out fine.
