Review of Godzilla (1998) by Genaro C — 15 Jul 2013
This American remake of the 1954 classic has many faults and missteps, but is nowhere near as inept as its reputation makes it out to be. I actually find it to be better than the two most recent Transformers movies.
Sure, it suffers from basic dialogue and stiff performances, but these things, while not excusable, are practically a given with this genre; one cannot dwell on them too much. The real problem is the portrayal of the monster lacking any real sense of menace.
Despite these, and the obvious throwbacks to Jurassic Park, it still manages to be an entertaining blockbuster, mostly due to some impressive shots of the creature and a fast paced climax.
