1998's lavish production Godzilla is unable to save itself from feeling like just another monster movie. Several moments scream of 'we wanna be the next Jurassic Park only BIGGER...'. Unfortunately the screenplay lacks the necessary depth to add weight to the 'humans talking' bits and so it is here we are subjected to some questionable character acting choices that needless to say have not aged well! Instead it all plays out like weak expeditionary dialogue scenes barely enough to set up the next huge budget action sequence. After the huge success Roland Emmerich Dean Devlin and their talented production team enjoyed with independence day, watching Godzilla serves as a sad reminder of an opportunity missed to wow such a willing audience.
