Review of Godzilla 1985 (1985) by Sara D — 23 Apr 2009
I remember watching this one when I was about ten years old, and thinking it boring, so I wanted to see how it held up as an adult, and it's a pretty good opening for a new series, it plays homage to the original film and in the American version it even brings back Raymond Burr.
There were a lot of references to the red scare since it was in the mid 80s and therefore a lot of emphasis on activating nukes to take out Godzilla. One of my favorite things in the whole movie though was the very obvious Dr.
Pepper product placement (this is only in the American version I believe), when a nervous corporal takes a drink and clearly has the can positioned to show the logo. Pretty neat update for Godzilla, But I believe the original is far superior (naturally).
