Review of God's Own Country (2017) by Felix K — 01 Feb 2018
This movie is doing more right than wrong. It has some very beautiful shots and the acting of the leads as well as the supporting ones is very good. The relationship between Johnny and Gheorghe is more engaging than the ones portrayed by its mainstream peers ("Brokeback Mountain" or "Call me by your name") The movie needs only few words to establish believable intimacy (a basal component of love) which is the result of the outstanding acting performances in combination with the skills of writer & director Francis Lee.
This movie shows that gay relationships are just as threatened by inner conflict - and not necessarily by an external one - as other relationships. "God's Own Country" is a movie about love and its incomparable influence on all of our lives more than worthy of witnessing.
