Review of Gods of Egypt (2016) by Jb B — 04 Mar 2016
Most of it looks like a Space Jam or Mary Poppins kind of movie but without the acting. Live actors play on animated (not even cgi! to me) backgrounds and wear animated armors. What annoyed me most was that all backgrounds were vague, something like bad photoshoped skies or desert sands.
It's a pity they made it like that. It could have been a better movie if they had used more solid backgrounds, real scenery and more slow pace. The casting (although more Nordic than Egyptian) had great names that could have taken the film to satisfactory levels, if there was any dialogue that is! I think the 1st time the actors actually acted was somewhere in the middle of the movie and then words faded away again, leaving their place to foggy cgi.
There was however some good material, like some traits of production design, a couple of action scenes and a couple of Courtney Eaton's assets, but other than that, the movie is as alive as the large popcorn I ate watching it.
