"Gods of Egypt" stars Gerard Butler as the vengeful God Set, who was cast out of his brother Osiris' kingdom. When Osiris plans to coronate his son Horace as King, Set unleashes hell upon Egypt.

The plot in this gods/human mash-up is very sketchy and extremely confusing. The crossover idea is interesting but really doesn't work within the framework of the plot. The special effects are hokey, and the film proceeds in a paint-by-numbers way that tries to be overly moralistic by its ending.

I've seen films address the philosophy of power before and this does a hamfisted job of it. This film misfires on a lot of levels, but Butlers performance is far from the worst. This film needed more inspired direction ------------------------------------------------------------------ C.
