Review of Gods of Egypt (2016) by Jin T — 17 May 2016
It was an okay movie. Nothing really special about it but if you like Egypt stuff like me, it's a thrill ride but only for one rollercoaster thrill ride. Gerard Butler gave a good performance but it's something I've already seen and that was his performance in 300.
But it did give a little distinctive for portraying the perky villainous god, Set. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau did the same thing. We've already seen his acting in Game of Thrones and yet it's brought here in this movie but did well nonetheless.
Brenton Thwaites as Bek, however, did a wonderful job as a thief but not enough to convince me that this is his best role yet. I still think his performance in The Giver is the best one. Elodie Yung is beautiful in this movie.
I actually seen her first performance in Daredevil season 2 as the none other, Elektra. She was really awesome in that and I didn't have any doubts that she would be in this movie. However, her role just like the other roles seemed like they were in the sidelines.
Chadwick Boseman played my most favorite god of them all. The god of widsom, Thoth. Wise yet amusing character to portray as and I thought it was good anyways. What is to be expected by these actors to portray the gods, loosely based on an ancient civilization culture that is Egypt? This movie is full of fantasy and action.
It's more to be wow'd to the audience with its spectacular computer graphics and thrilling but too fast paced of a story. There were many gods to explore and get to know with but this movie focus on Horus getting back at his uncle.
I hate to say it but Bek and Zaya's situation, them together in this story was eye candy. Although the romantic relationship is not forced, it was not flourished. At least to my "all-seeing eyes".
This is one of those movies where you turn your brain off and enjoy the movie however you like it because, like I said, it's a fantasy stylized action with a little bit of romance, for those girls that want that stuff in this movie.
If you liked Immortals and 300, then you'll probably like this. It's not that bad of a movie as most would say. Certainly not the best.
